The Association for Individual Development recently received a $15,000 grant from the Department of Human Services with the assistance of Representative Ruth Munson (R-Elgin) to be used for the Ride in Kane program.
Ride in Kane, which started in February, unites Kane County's dial-a-ride programs under one umbrella, providing a curb-to-curb service, 24 hours, 7 days a week, for seniors and disabled residents.
"Ride in Kane provides an indispensable service for our communities affording our disabled residents and senior citizens with greater independence," Munson said. "It literally means financial security for so many who could not get a job because of the lack of affordable and reliable para-transit options."
Since 1961, AID has helped individuals with developmental, physical and/or mental disabilities and those who have suffered a trauma. AID places emphasis on community integration, social and leisure activities, and education and training within the community. With these additional transportation funds, more individuals in need will have reliable transportation. This will assist them with holding jobs in the community, going shopping on their own, and getting to doctor's appointments.
"AID and its clients truly appreciate the support Representative Ruth Munson has shown," said AID president Lynn O'Shea. "Her caring nature and understanding of our individual's needs will provide much-needed transportation to our community's most vulnerable population."
For more information, call Rep. Munson's district office at (847) 622-1048 or AID at (630) 966-4000.
